Sofia DiMario is a 21-year-old from Windsor Ontario. Sofia is studying Funeral Directing and Embalming at Humber College and will be completing her Funeral Director internship with Arbor Memorial, across Windsor Essex in May 2024. She dreams of becoming Canada’s most Glamorous Funeral Director and to own a Funeral home of her own. Sofia is very passionate about helping others through difficult times. With many experiences of grief and loss, Sofia understands the importance of Celebrating Life and the ethical values behind it. Sofia is encouraged by the saying “Death ends a life Not a relationship” by Morrie Schwartz. She aims to provide families with the most transparent and dignifying experience in her care. Sofia is representing the Canadian Women’s Foundation as her platform of choice. The Canadian Women’s Foundation is a national non-profit organization focused on helping women and girls. It aims to end violence against women, move low-income women out of poverty, and empower girls. Sofia believes she is the perfect representation of her platform because she is passionate about gender equality and amplifying the voices of victims and survivors of domestic violence.
After losing her father in 2019 and an injury ending her national gymnastics career in 2020, Sofia discovered her strength and resiliency through pageantry and volunteer work. Pageantry became a passion for Sofia. It has helped her gain confidence and improved her self-esteem. Sofia made lifelong friendships through pageantry and learned the importance of supporting others. Sofia has participated in numerous volunteer endeavors to support Windsor Essex, including: The Red Cross, The Optimist Club, The Bloody Good Riversiders, and the Children’s Aid Society of Windsor Essex. She has over 175 hours of volunteer work.
Sofia hopes to be a role model for young women and provide the courage to live by the motto “Don’t let your fear of falling keep you from flying”.
